The Really Easy Way Of Moving From Yahoo Mail To GMail – Contacts, E-Mail And All

Moving from Yahoo Mail to Gmail: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Gmail is king, Yahoo Mail is old news. However there are still millions of Yahoo Mail accounts in use because people struggle with the notion of moving between mail providers. Don’t worry, switching from Yahoo Mail to Gmail doesn’t require a computer science degree! This guide will explain the process in simple steps, helping you migrate smoothly.

Moving from a @yahoo to a @gmail mail address can be easy.

Before we start:

  • Make sure you have a Gmail account already set up. If not, go to https://mail.google.com/mail/ and create one.
  • It’s best to keep your Yahoo account active while you migrate, just in case. We’ll deactivate it later if you want.

Moving your emails and contacts:

  1. Open your Gmail account.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner and select Settings.
  3. Go to the Accounts and Import tab.
  4. Click Import mail and contacts.
  5. Enter your Yahoo email address and click Continue.
  6. You’ll be redirected to Yahoo. Log in and grant permission to access your data.
  7. Choose what you want to import: Contacts, Mail, or both. You can also enable email forwarding for the next 30 days if you want new Yahoo emails to arrive in Gmail.
  8. Click Start import.

Relax! The migration may take some time, depending on how many emails you have. You’ll receive a notification when it’s done.

Organizing your new Gmail:

  1. After the import, you’ll see a new label in your Gmail called [Your Yahoo email address]. This contains all your imported emails.
  2. You can drag and drop emails from this label to other folders in Gmail to organize them.
  3. Consider creating filters to automatically move emails from your old Yahoo address to specific folders in Gmail.

Optional: Saying goodbye to Yahoo:

  1. Once you’re comfortable with Gmail and have everything transferred, you can deactivate your Yahoo account if you wish.
  2. Go to Yahoo’s “Account termination” page and follow the instructions.

Remember:

  • Don’t forget to update your email address with any services or contacts that still use your old Yahoo address.
  • Be cautious of phishing emails that might try to trick you into clicking on malicious links.
  • If you encounter any issues, feel free to search online for help or contact Gmail support.

Bonus tip: If you’re nervous about making mistakes, try migrating a small batch of emails first to get familiar with the process before transferring everything.

I hope this guide helps you make a smooth transition to Gmail! Also remember that if you’re not happy with providing details across different mail services and “connecting” accounts you can still use our mail forwarding software to migrate e-mails using only your own PC instead of 3rd party services.
